The HYRAX is unique as a small telescopic boom lift. It is the small telescopic boom lift that delivers outstanding performances and pushes limits.
When searching for a small aerial lift, you encounter various types and sizes, each with its specifications and performance. In this article, we explain the differences between the various small aerial lifts and also show you the advantages of these lifts.
Definition of a small aerial lift:
Aerial lifts with a weight of up to 7,700 lbs.
The various small aerial lifts on the market
The most common small aerial lifts on the market include:
1. The scissor lift
This type of aerial lift is widely used in rack construction and for maintenance in halls, such as when replacing lights.
Key advantages of this type of aerial lift: relatively inexpensive to purchase, easy to transport, a large work basket, and the ability to drive at height.
Key disadvantages of this type of aerial lift: less suitable for outdoor use, only suitable for flat floors, no leveling, no outreach (only up and down).
2. The compact crawler boom lift
This type of boom lift is widely used by painters and window cleaners.
Key advantages of this type of boom lift: a high working range, a lot of outreach, stability due to stabilizer legs allowing this type of telescopic boom lift to be often lightly constructed.
Key disadvantages of this type of boom lift: requires a lot of stabilizing space (± 100 square feet), cannot drive at height, moving the boom lift takes a lot of time, feels less stable, less intuitive in operation.
3. The towable boom lift
This type of aerial lift is widely used in facade cleaning and by window cleaners.
Key advantages of this type of aerial lift: easy to transport behind the truck, suitable for flat and hard terrain, no need for a separate trailer, high working range.
Key disadvantages of this type of aerial lift: low maneuverability on rough terrain, requires a lot of stabilizing space, difficult to position, moving and stabilizing the aerial lift takes a lot of time.
4. The vehicle mounted lift
The vehicle mounted lift is widely used by municipalities for tasks such as green and infrastructure maintenance.
Key advantages of this type of aerial lift: can be used with a regular driver’s license, suitable for many different applications, high working range, easy to transport (without a trailer).
Key disadvantages of this type of aerial lift: works with stabilizer legs, cannot drive at height, minimal maneuverability on rough terrain, takes up a lot of space in the truck, leaving less space for materials / tools.
5. The (crawler) telescopic boom lift
The telescopic boom lift (including the HYRAX 27.41) is suitable for a wide range of terrains and professional groups.
Key advantages of this type of aerial lift: easy to transport behind the truck, can drive on any surface due to its non-marking tracks, can work on sloping surfaces, can drive at height, large outreach, maneuverable.
Key disadvantages of this type of aerial platform: Because it is a lightweight (tracked) telescopic boom lift without stabilizer legs, the working height and outreach are sometimes insufficient. Up to 41 feet working height, it performs perfectly!
What are the benefits of a small telescopic boom lift?
A small telescopic boom lift has several advantages compared to its larger counterparts. We would like to tell you more about this and specifically provide more information about the small HYRAX telescopic boom lift.
Easy to transport
In most cases, a small telescopic boom lift can be easily transported. For example, the HYRAX crawler telescopic boom lift, when folded, is 180 inches long, 69 inches wide, and 79 inches high. These dimensions make it easy to transport the telescopic boom lift on a trailer behind the truck. There is even space left on the trailer for other materials and tools.
Small and tricky places are accessible
With a small telescopic boom lift, you can access the most challenging and smallest spaces— places that are not or hardly accessible with a large-sized telescopic boom lift. This is attributed to the HYRAX telescopic boom lift’s extensive reach, automatic bi-leveling (up to 15° degrees), and all rotation possibilities.
360° slewing ring
360° continuous rotation
Up to 41 feet high
Work higher, get more done
Automatic bi-leveling
Up to15º automatic bi-leveling.
Easy to operate
A small telescopic boom lift works more easily and is more flexible than a large one. The engineers at HYRAX have invested a lot of time and attention in the user-friendliness of the telescopic boom lift. Simply because we have the ambition to create the best telescopic boom lift on the market.
The HYRAX telescopic boom lift is easy to operate with an innovative control panel full of handy features. The platform features proportional control, allowing you to go full speed or move more slowly (not just on or off). A HYRAX crawler telescopic boom lift is easily adaptable without any complicated procedures.
Small telescopic boom lift, so more space for materials
The small telescopic boom lift from HYRAX doesn’t take up much space, allowing you ample room for your other materials. Quite handy when you’re heading to a job site or construction site.
We’ve designed the HYRAX small, with impressive performance. Take a look!
The drive components are integrated into the extendable counterweight, and that same substantial counterweight ensures stability. When folded, the retracted counterweight makes the HYRAX exceptionally compact.
The HYRAX telescopic boom lift can carry up to 154 lbs of material in the platform using the load carriers. Folded load carriers act as a bumper to prevent damage to the cage.
The undercarriage of the HYRAX is remarkably narrow when folded (69 inches). The telescopic boom lift doesn’t have a conventional box construction but a cleverly spreading undercarriage. This undercarriage unfolds to a width of 87 inches.
Lightweight
A small telescopic boom lift is, of course, lighter in weight than its larger counterparts. However, being lighter doesn’t mean compromising on performance. For example, the HYRAX telescopic boom lift weighs only 6,000 lbs but achieves the performance of a larger 12,000 lbs telescopic boom lift. The HYRAX tracked telescopic boom lift is unique in its class due to its weight balance.
Due to the light weight of the small telescopic boom lift, it can achieve higher speeds. The HYRAX 27.41 telescopic boom lift can travel up to 2.5 mph, and when the platform is at height (41 ft), the HYRAX can travel at up to 0.9 mph.
